About CALU

The Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) is a conference of the Financial Advisors Association of Canada or Advocis.

Advocis is a non-profit association established in 1906, which maintains an extensive professional development program and a code of ethics for its more than 12,000 members who are engaged primarily in the provision of life and health insurance. CALU was formed in 1991 to provide services to Advocis members who specialize in the area of advanced life underwriting. CALU members provide personal financial, business succession, estate planning and employee benefits services to their clients, many of whom are the owners of family businesses, large and small.

CALU membership includes many of Canada's foremost practitioners in such fields as Estate Planning, Retirement Planning, Executive Compensation, Corporate-Owned Life Insurance, Charitable Giving and Employee Benefits. Members of CALU provide experienced and dynamic leadership for the wide range of activities designed to enhance the professional competence of advanced life underwriters.

Membership in CALU is restricted to individuals who meet the professional standards set for admission to the organization's three membership categories – Active, Provisional and Associate.

Active Members are licensed practitioners providing financial services and life insurance and related financial products to their clients.

Provisional Members are licensed practitioners, under the age of 40, providing financial services and life insurance and related financial products to their clients.

Associate Membership status is available to personnel involved in the design and development of financial products and services.

Through the annual meeting and seminars, CALU provides Active, Provisional and Associate Members with a forum in which to discuss and exchange information to improve the quality of products and services provided for clients.
