Communications Coordinator (4-month contract)

The Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) has an immediate opening for a Communications Coordinator to join our small but mighty team in Ottawa, ON for a full-time four-month contract.

CALU is the only national professional organization dedicated to advanced planning issues related to life and group insurance, wealth management, tax and succession planning. CALU’s more than 600 leading industry members include insurance and financial advisors as well as accounting, tax, legal and actuarial experts. Through a strategic partnership with Advocis, we advocate on behalf of more than 13,000 advisors in support of fair and competitive public policies to grow and preserve the financial well-being of Canadians and family businesses.

Description

The Communications Coordinator performs day-to-day marketing and communications tasks for the organization, including preparing web, email and social media content and images. They also copyedit documents, apply and maintain branding and templates, and support the team with content calendars and analytics reports. This position reports to the Manager of Operations, and comes with an annual salary of $38,000 to $45,000 based on relevant experience.

The CALU office is temporarily closed due to COVID-19. The Communications Coordinator will be expected to work remotely for the time being, however they must be located in the Ottawa area in order to be able to work from the office and attend in-person events, when it is appropriate to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, build and send email campaigns via Member 365 platform.
  • Coordinate social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn), draft content to post, and report on interactions.
  • Update content on the website and the members portal as needed.
  • Copyedit reports, documents and web content using CP style.
  • Apply organizational branding to web content and Microsoft Office documents.
  • Perform basic graphic design and image editing for web and social media content.
  • Coordinate with external graphic designers for advanced design work.
  • Support the Manager of Operations with:
    • coordinating and updating internal communications content calendar.
    • developing and maintaining organizational lexicon, brand guidelines and templates.
    • preparing analytics reports on key website, email and social media metrics.
  • Other duties as required.

Job qualifications and competencies

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of relevant work experience in communications and/or marketing.
  • Experience working in a member-based association or a not-for-profit organization is an asset.
  • Advanced software and technology skills, including Microsoft Office, WordPress, image editing, email campaign software and social media.
  • Graphic design experience is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, including strong copywriting and copyediting skills. French is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated pro-active mindset to take the initiative, be creative and innovate.
  • Appreciation for a small team environment, including flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and assignments based on the business needs of the organization.
