CALU Highlights 2020

2020 has been a year like no other. In response to these unique times, our staff and volunteer committees rose to the challenge to meet your professional development needs and achieve some important wins for our members.

Highlights include:

Establishing the 2020 CALU Webinar Program

In place of our annual conference and AGM, we developed the 2020 CALU Webinar Program. More than 225 members have taken advantage of one or more of the 21 live technical workshops offered, which have been highly rated by our members.

Implementing on-demand webinars for CE credit

For the first time ever, members can now register for engaging and informative on-demand webinars and obtain CE credits (as approved by your credentialing body) through the calu.luma.one learning platform. Our 2020 program recordings will be available through early 2021, which means there’s still time to catch up on any needed CE credits with webinars you may have missed.

Complimentary virtual learning

Members had access to additional complimentary learning for 2020. This included virtual roundtables on tax matters with CRA and Finance officials and webinars on disruption and innovation with expert Jim Harris that we opened up to your clients and staff – a CALU first. More than 1,000 attendees participated in these sessions, further extending the learning and networking opportunities beyond face-to-face learning.

2021 pre-budget submission

We advanced the interests of our members and all Canadians and family businesses with our 2021 pre-budget submission delivered to the Standing Committee on Finance in August 2020.

Establishing new partnerships

To ensure that your needs and those of your clients and the larger business community were addressed by the federal government through the pandemic, CALU joined forces with Canadian Business Resilience Network, established by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. CALU is also directly involved in the Chamber’s Harnessing Canada’s Tax System for Inclusive Recovery and Growth initiative.

Supporting our members through engagement

We made an extra effort to understand your needs during these challenging times. This was instrumental as we developed and evaluated new ways to engage our members with the 2020 CALU Webinar Program.

We also conducted a membership survey to help inform the three-year strategic review conducted this year by the board and staff. We were gratified by the overall 80 per cent satisfaction rate you gave CALU and pleased with the valuable insights you provided. Thank you to all who took the time to provide your input, helping to shape the future of CALU.
